Rinah's first roll of film

We gave Rinah my Holga 135 to hone her budding interest in photography. We wanted to give her the opportunity to be thoughtful with each image and wait for results. This instant results culture is a blessing in many ways, but we want Rinah to understand that there are processes and patience and work involved in creating, too.
It's been so fun to watch her has she picks up her camera, plays with the perfectly minimal settings, and snaps a photo. Getting the film back the other day, and looking through her first photos was a proud moment, indeed.
These are all from the day we shot this video, just a couple days after coming home from Uganda. I love to see this day through her mind... ('an apple... in the rubbish?!')
And also, time to announce that the winner of the Frankie 2012 Calendar and Journal Giveaway... Thanks to all who entered- I loved reading about your excitements for 2012. I wish I could pick you all! But the randomly chosen winner is- Jenny Linquist! I hope you enjoy having a pretty place to record all the adventures that 2012 hold for you...

wow...what a beautiful thing you're teaching her, and a beautiful roll of film. God bless you three!
I love this. I bet she would love going to a darkroom.
So happy to see that Rinah is interested in photography ! And she has great teachers :-)))
So glad you're training her this way! Having to be more thoughtful with each photo / and the patience that comes with waiting for film to come back will be huge for her. These photos are very sweet.

you guys are great parents. :)
whoa these are really good! the girl has an eye.
That's a beautiful thing to teach her. I am curious about what it was like for her in Uganda--what access would she and her classmates have had to creative oppurtunities? Obviously film and cameras and other art supplies are expensive but would Rinah have had the chance to paint or photograph or anything like that?
